Fivemile Pass by Jeep: access, parking and trip planning

Fivemile is an easy place to put on the calendar for a day out from Utah County. The important part is agreeing on what you’re going to drive. Meeting at the same parking lot doesn’t mean everyone has the same trail in mind.

Where do you park at Fivemile Pass?

BLM’s directions lead west from Lehi along SR-73 to the main parking area. Its visitor page includes an area map, a large day-use lot and five pit toilets. Share a pin for your meeting spot, especially if some of the group is arriving with trailers.

Dispersed camping is permitted without a camping fee according to BLM. Check the visitor page for updates before treating a day trip as an overnight stay. Bring your own water and leave enough room in the plan to pack out what you bring.

Can you take a stock Jeep?

There isn’t one answer for the whole area. Fivemile has dirt roads and routes used by different kinds of vehicles. The route, its condition and the driver matter more than the name of the recreation area. A stock Jeep and a heavily modified crawler should not automatically follow the same plan.

Ask your group for the route name, expected obstacles and an exit plan. Check that it is open to a full-size vehicle. If that information is missing, get it before committing to the drive. BLM’s Salt Lake Field Office can help with access questions at (801) 320-8300.

What should you sort out before the trip?

Save the map, agree on the meeting point and tell someone where you’re going. Look over the tires and spare, and don’t ignore a leak or noise that has just started. A vehicle you drive to the trail still has to get you home.

If the Jeep has larger tires or a lift you didn’t install, find out what is on it. Bring any parts records when you call us about suspension or axle work. Tell us what feels wrong and what kind of driving you have planned; we can discuss the job from there.
