GEARS
GEARS &
REGEARING.
Bigger tires can change how your Jeep or truck pulls and cruises. We install gears and regear axles at our Salem shop, with the tire size and driving you do in mind.

Match the gears to the tires.
Larger tires change effective gearing. The axle ratio, transmission and tire size all matter when choosing a setup. A ratio that works for another Jeep may not be the right choice for yours, even if the tires look similar.
Road miles count too.
A trail rig that also drives to work has to do both jobs. Highway engine speed and the driving you want to do off-road belong in the same conversation. Tell us what changed after a tire swap, or what you want the next setup to do better.
Gears and lockers in the same project.
If lockers are on the list, discuss them before the gear work is planned. Both involve the axle assembly. We can talk through compatible parts and the scope of the job together; the regear estimate guide explains what to compare.
Keep planning.

BEFORE YOUR VISIT
A FEW
ANSWERS.
What details should I have ready?
Your year, make, model, current and planned tire sizes, and any modifications. Axle and gear-ratio information is helpful if you have it; it’s fine if you don’t.
How do I get a regearing estimate?
Call (801) 472-3410 with your vehicle details and plans. The parts and work needed depend on your vehicle, so we’ll start there.
Is regearing the same as changing the ring and pinion?
An axle regear changes the ring-and-pinion ratio in the differential. Bring your tire size, vehicle details and any axle records when asking about the job. If you have a noise or a leak, mention that too so we can discuss the repair concern separately from the gearing change.
