Ford F-150 / 2021–2025

F-150 4x4 front-wheel grinding: IWE parts and repair hours

A grinding noise at the front of an F-150 doesn’t tell you which part to buy. If you’ve noticed it in two-wheel drive, mention that when you call. It is a useful clue, especially if the noise comes and goes.

Problem
Intermittent front-wheel grinding or rumble
Factory labor examples
2.1–3.4 hours, depending on the side(s)

2021–2025 non-Raptor, ESOF code FMLAS

What is an IWE, and which trucks are covered?

IWE means integrated wheel end. Ford bulletin 25-2513 covers certain 2021–2025 non-Raptor F-150s with an ESOF transfer case, build code FMLAS. It describes noise in 2WD that disappears in 4WD, with no transfer-case control-module fault codes, caused by incomplete IWE disengagement.

Tell the shop what you have already noticed. You don’t need to recreate the noise or experiment with four-wheel drive to make an appointment. The configuration and cause still need to be checked.

Which IWE part numbers does Ford list?

These references apply to the configuration above. They are not a complete shopping list. Confirm current fitment, required hardware and any superseded numbers with the supplier.

How many labor hours should you expect?

Ford lists these allowances for diagnosis, spline cleaning and IWE replacement. Use the appropriate operation; don’t add the left and right figures to estimate both sides.

Left side: 2.3 hours
Operation 252513A
Right side: 2.1 hours
Operation 252513B
Both sides: 3.4 hours
Operation 252513C

Why we recommend a professional for this repair

Ford’s procedure requires lifting all four wheels for diagnosis and warns that the wrong cleaning brush can damage the shaft splines. This is more involved than fitting a replacement part you found by its number.

If you don’t have the lifting equipment and experience for front-end work, let a shop handle it. Paying for a diagnosis first can keep a guess from turning into a pile of parts.

Plan the visit before taking the truck apart

Those labor figures are useful for understanding the size of the job. They are not a Super Wrench quote or a guaranteed pickup time. Ask about parts availability, current scheduling and whether the inspection has found anything else that needs attention.

Before paying for work, ask a Ford dealer whether your truck has applicable warranty coverage. For a repair appointment at our Salem shop, have the VIN, mileage and any recent front-end repair history ready.
