BUILD GUIDES / SUSPENSION CHOICES

LIFT KIT OR
LEVELING KIT?

A leveling kit usually reduces the front-to-rear height difference. A suspension lift raises the vehicle further, often at both ends. The choice starts with what you want to change—and the exact truck or SUV you drive.

What the two names usually mean

Leveling kit
Typically raises the lower front end to reduce factory rake. It is a starting point for a stance change, with fitment and components specific to the vehicle.
Suspension lift kit
Usually raises both ends and may involve more suspension components. The exact kit determines the height, supported tire and wheel combinations, and installation requirements.
For either option
Check the manufacturer’s application list for your year, model, drivetrain and existing suspension. Do not assume another truck’s fitment carries over to yours.
01

Name the result you want.

Is the goal a more level stance, room for a particular tire, or a different suspension setup for trail use? Write that down before shopping by lift height. Bring a photo of the look you like, but include your vehicle specifications; similar-looking trucks can need different parts.

02

Check the complete tire and wheel combination.

A kit height alone does not tell you whether a tire will fit. Ask about the specific tire dimensions, wheel width and offset, and any trimming or other work required by the kit manufacturer. Include the wheels you already own in that conversation before buying tires.

03

Keep the ordinary trips in the plan.

Measure the garage or parking clearance you need to keep. Describe your usual load, any trailer use, and how passengers get in and out. Ask the installer to explain how the proposed setup affects those needs. Choosing the tallest kit on the list is not a substitute for checking the fit.

04

Ask for the whole installation scope.

Bring the kit brand and part number to Super Wrench before ordering. Ask which components are included, what additional parts or checks the vehicle needs, and whether alignment or follow-up work is included or arranged separately. Call the Salem shop to discuss whether the proposed installation is a fit for your vehicle.

Before buying a kit

  • Save the exact kit part number and its application list.
  • Record your wheel and tire specifications, including planned changes.
  • List existing suspension modifications and your normal load.
  • Ask for the complete installation scope and follow-up requirements.

Keep planning.

BEFORE YOUR VISIT

A FEW
ANSWERS.

Will a leveling kit fit the tires I want?

Confirm the exact tire, wheel and vehicle combination against the kit’s fitment guidance. A lift-height number alone is not a tire-clearance guarantee.

Can I bring a kit I already own?

Call Super Wrench with the part number and your vehicle details before arranging a drop-off. The shop can discuss the proposed installation and what else needs to be checked.
